A Collection of Rare Film Footage
Edited by John K. Robson

The video, Lincoln Park Remembered, is made from six rare, 35mm and 16mm professionally-made films dating as early as 1920. Five of the films are from the archives of Lincoln Park historian Jim Grasela. In this presentation, film editor John K. Robson has crafted together some of the more animated and thrilling scenes and takes us on a heartfelt journey through this magical place.

The film opens in 1920, as we board the trolley, arrive at the park, and ride with the children on the coaster, carousel, swings and roundabouts. Then, unique footage from 1947 walks us through an authentic New England clambake from preparing the open fire, to baking then serving thousands of clams in the grand picnic pavilion. Later, in a lively film made in 1950, we journey through the park from the walkway on Route 6 to the Fun House, the Penny Arcade and many rides along the midway.

In 1954, TV-personality Nancy Byers guides us on a whirlwind tour as she narrates for the "folks at home." Ms. Byers takes us on boat rides and airplanes, through concessions and games, and finally on a heart-stopping ride aboard the famous roller coaster. In 1958, a color film shows us a raucous time with the children at the First Annual Fall River Diocese Picnic Outing. Toward the film's end, editor Robson puts together a series of still images representing Lincoln Park from 1894 to the present. Many of these images are from private collections and lend a family-scrapbook effect.

Enjoy this long journey through a fabulous place that touched so many generations, and relive the romance, gaiety, freedom and fun of another time, not so long ago.
