Blubber is a versatile word. It can effectively convey intense emotional distress in a sentence. As a verb, it is to weep noisily and without restraint, or to speak incoherently while weeping. As a noun, it is fat. As an adjective, it means disfigurement such as she dried her blubber eyes; fatty or swollen. Another example, blubber-belly, blubber-head. Historically, blubber from a whale allowed people to read and write at night.
